Chinese Gov't Announces Second-stage CMMB Bid Results

On January 21, the Chinese government procurement website of the Ministry of Finance announced the results of the second stage bid for CMMB (China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) system equipment for mobile TV. A total of 13 companies won bids, with the total value of the bids exceeding 25 million RMB (US$3.46 million; US$1=7.22). Equipment covered by the bid includes transmitters, CMMB portable terminal equipment, and other system equipment.

 

The aforementioned 13 companies include, among others: Beijing Tongfang Gigamega Tech., Dalian Toshiba Broadcasting Systems, BBEF, Beijing Cheng Qian Global System Integration Company, Beijing Sino-Sky Radio & Television Communication Technology, and Filcom Technologies.

 

According to Sina.com, this bid is aimed at CMMB technology testing in 35 cities, with the goal of providing mobile phone TV services in time for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
